The Fresh Roast SR300 is a great “Starter” machine for the home roaster who wants to taste truly fresh roasted coffee. The SR300 replaces our original, little workhorse, the FreshRoast 8, with over 60,000 units sold worldwide. The SR300 will roast a maximum of 4 ounces (2/3 cup) of green beans in 5 - 7 minutes, depending on the darkness level you desire. The clear glass roasting chamber allows you to watch the beans develop before your eyes. You can arrest the roasting process anytime during the roast by tapping the “cool” button when you have achieved the desired depth of roast. Its recommended that you allow the beans to cool and “cure” at least 5 hours before grinding and brewing. Controls are digital with ability to add and subtract roasting time, and ending the roast by entering the “cool down” mode.

With added adjustable Time, Temperature and Fan Speed controls (absent on the SR 300 Model) allows you nearly complete control over the roasting process; and makes it possible to virtually repeat your earlier custom roasts. The SR 500 roasts a maximum of 4 ounces (2/3 cup) of green beans per roast in 5 to 7 minutes, depending on the size and the depth of roast.
With the three manual controls, you can precisely follow prior roast profiles from your Roasting Log and duplicate the same roast time after time. The high, medium and low temperature setting can be adjusted anytime during the roasting process. High Temp = 490 degrees, Medium Temp = 455 degrees and Low Temp = 390 degrees. The Fan Speed control allows immediate adjustments of +/- 10% at each setting. When starting the roast, the beans are at their heaviest, requiring maximum fan speed to keep fluid bean motion. After a couple of minutes into the roast, its safe to adjust down the speed as desired. The roasting time can be manipulated by tapping the Cool Down button which instantly turns off the heat and begins circulating cool air through the chamber. The roaster is programmed with a default roasting time of 5.8 minutes, and automatically goes into cool down mode.
We are offering the SR 500 at a special pre-Holiday price of $164.95 through the end of December 2012, including FREE SHIPPING !

This is introduce to you the simplicity and enjoyment of roasting your own raw, green coffee beans at home; and savoring the best, freshest tasting coffee you will ever experience. The following instructions are for roasting with the Fresh Roast Model 500. With the Model 300, the only control you have is the roasting and cooling time.
I would suggest for your first batch, a "full city roast", aka Viennese or medium dark roast, which produces a rich, full bodied, nicely balanced cup. Follow these simple instructions for your first roast:
Load your roasting chamber with 3-4oz of green beans. You will want to begin with the fan speed and heat set on high. After the beans are warm and vigorously circulating in the roasting chamber after about 2 minutes, turn the fan down to its half speed setting, and the heat to medium. Towards the very end of the preset 5.9 minute roast, you will hear what's referred to as "the second crack". It sounds like muffled popcorn popping. This is the sound marker indicating the full city roast is approaching. Visually, the beans should be taking on a "Hershey's Milk Chocolate" shade of brown. You can either let the roast go the full 5.9 minutes or tap the "cool" button, and it will go into the 3 minute cool down mode. And there you have it!
Once you feel comfortable with the use of the heat and fan controls, and the physical changes of the roasting beans, start experimenting with your roasts. This is what makes home roasting fun and exciting!
Just a helpful suggestion, keep a log of every roast you do. Mark as accurately as you can the time, temperature and fan speed of every change you make during the roast. We have a "roasting log" here on a separate page that you download and print out a chart that will help you record your personal customized roasts.
Its also recommended that you weigh your beans before and after the roast, for your the first few roasts. The percent of weight loss during the roast is a good overall indicator of a good, efficient process. For a dark roast, the loss should not exceed more than 25-27% and for medium roasts you should expect 17-20% weight loss. Excessive weight loss indicates a roast that's too slow, resulting in less than optimal flavor.
Happy roasting my friends!
